Chamber Choir Success at Hounslow School Choir of the Year
On Tuesday 26th March, Our Lady and Saint John's Chamber Choir took part in the final of Hounslow School Choir of the Year. The children had put in months of preparation; before Christmas the Chamber Choir sent a recording of their fantastic performance of 'Feeling Good' to Hounslow Music service. In January we were informed that due to our brilliant recording, we were shortlisted to the final of the competition in March.
For the final, the Chamber Choir chose to perform 'How far I'll go' from Moana in two part harmony with choreographed movements, and performed first in the afternoon session. It is no mean feat to open a competition, but the children set the bar extremely high. The judges praised the choir's 'stunning diction', 'beautiful blend of concise unison voices', 'effective choreography' and 'lovely expressive faces'.
There was only one winner of the competition, however we were one of a very few schools who received a 'Highly Commended' award for our performance'.
The children performed with confidence, expression and wonderful musicality. They were brilliant representatives of our school and I am so very proud of them. A big thank you to Mrs O' Connor who accompanied the children in the final, Mrs Cunningham, the parent helpers who came on the trip and all who supported the children in their preparation for the competition.
