Laudato Si' LiveSimply

In November 2021, Year 3,4,5 and 6 took part in a virtual workshop on Climate Change. Pupils looked at and discussed ways in which we can reduce and combat climate change in our school and homes. Pupils were engaged and showed great knowledge and understanding of the topic. The workshop left us with many things to consider and to try and improve in the coming year so we too are doing our bit for the environment and for our work as stewards of God's creation.

Our next step is to to set up an Eco Warrior committee to help our school live out the Live Simply objectives. The pictures below show part of the presentation.

Gardening Club

As part of our work on climate change we have been developing our school garden. Last year we managed to grow tomatoes, carrots, peppers, rhubarb, cucumbers and a pumpkin! This year we have started by clearing the beds of weeds and planting bulbs ready for Spring flowering. We hope to attract bees and other insects.

Year 6 have been busy planting seeds to grow a variety of vegetables which we hope to sell. We have planted out some of the seedlings and will be looking after them this term.

This will go towards our ‘Live Simply’ Award.

In Laudato Si’  Pope Francis invites us all to:

“work with generosity and tenderness in protecting this world which God has entrusted to us”.

From September 2020 Our lady & St. John's will work towards achieving the CAFOD LiveSimply Award. Our Mini-Vinnies will lead our work towards this award.
