Remote Learning at Our Lady & St John’s

Remote Learning Lead – Mrs. Mary Sheehan

We use Google Classroom as our remote learning platform and the pupils are familiar with this as we use it for homework. All children have their own logins in their Reading Record book. Remote learning is a blend of online learning, recorded teaching and live teaching. Where necessary other resources may be used including learning packs.

Each teacher sets daily lessons for the children. The children in KS1 and KS2 will receive between 3 to 4 hours of learning each day depending on the age of the child. Early Years will receive up to 3 hours of learning/activities. Pupils upload work and this will be checked daily and we have a daily story/discussion on Google Meets for pupils.

Children and parents can contact teachers via the message facility. Due to the teachers being engaged in the remote learning with their pupils you may not get an answer immediately but the teachers will respond as soon as possible. The children have the ability to communicate with the teacher via our learning platforms if they have any questions regarding their learning. Children must only use the chat or messenger system for learning or work related communication with the teacher.

Please ensure that children are supervised appropriately depending on age, when learning online. Further guidance on online safety can be found on this website. You can raise your online safety concerns with your class teacher if you worried about any online safety issues. Some aspects of live teaching may be recorded – if any parent does not wish their child seen please ensure the camera is turned off. Due to GDPR regulations, no pupil/parent is allowed to record any session.
